North Star
It’s important to remember your North Star. What is the reason that makes you get up in the morning? Is it your job? Is it your dream to own a nice house? Is it because you love what you do? Is it because it affords you the ability to do what you want to do? These are questions that you have to establish first to be able to reverse engineer what it is that you need to do. For example, if my goal was to own a 3 million dollar house then I have to start looking at financial vehicles to get me to the point where I can afford a 3 million dollar home. Financial vehicle is your job, your business, your career. Your job is just a vehicle to get you to places. Your first vehicle (job) may not be the newest model, it may not have all of the features like heated seats or electronic windows. But as soon upgrade in life, your vehicles will need to be upgraded to. Does that make sense? I used an analogy yesterday that I often think about. When you’re playing video games and you just started, it’s easy to level up. As the you get more experience and your level increases, it gets harder and harder to level up. It takes long and it may require more tasks - sometimes you fail at completing those tasks to be able to move onto the next level. Life is the same way. The more you want to level up in life, the harder it’s going to be. So don’t be discouraged. Remember your North Star. Why are you doing what you’re doing in the first place and that will bring you a peace of mind. For example, my North Star is to be able to create videos, films, documentaries the way I want shoot it. I don’t want to just be another videographer that does the same type of videos everyone else does. I want to tell impactful stories. I want to make high quality documentaries. Now could I do that being a full-time videographer? Sure, but I would have to take on a bunch of bullshit jobs to pay the bill at the expense of my passion. So I found a job that would take care of the bills and allow me to save up to go out and travel and tell those stories that I want to tell. I would much rather do my creative work for free for something I’m passionate about than just making content to make content. I think thats where most creators go wrong. Riding that trend is a never-ending game. You’ll never set yourself apart riding trends. You gotta make waves.
